The Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD has two engines on offer. The standard powerplant is a 6.6-liter V8 that puts out 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque, connected to a six-speed automatic gearbox. An optional 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 unit generates 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of twist. Power is sent to the wheels through an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional.

The EPA doesn’t test heavy vehicles like the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. In Car and Driver testing, the Silverado 2500HD with the 6.6-liter V8 gas engine returned 14 mpg highway. The diesel engine checked in with 19 mpg highway.
The Silverado 2500HD WT trim is the base workhorse model. It comes with a long list of standard features, including 17-inch wheels, an automatic locking rear differential, a two-speed electronic transfer case, black bumpers, black exterior trim, manual door locks and windows, rear-seat air vents, vinyl upholstery, a locking tailgate, trailering mirrors and equipment, air conditioning, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth.
The higher trim levels add features such as an 8-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio and wireless phone charging. Four-wheel drive models have an optional Z71 Off-Road Package that includes an exclusive suspension, Rancho shocks, hill-descent control and skidplates.
The 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD’s trailering camera system can display a maximum of 15 different views, including one that lets the driver watch the trailer's contents.
